How to Read a German Pedigree
The following is a condensed version to help the beginner better understand and appreciate the accomplishments of the aforementioned dogs.
If the original SV pedigree is pink that means that both parents of the dog have been examined by SV officials and found suitable for breeding. The Ahnentafel (ancestor listing) is folded in half. All the necessary breeding information is on this. Pedigrees are to be given to the new owner at time of sale. The ownership transfer is recorded on the back.
As you open the pedigree you'll see the parents (Eltern), listed at the far left. The father (Vater) is noted in the 1st block. The mother (Mutter) is noted in the second block. All total, a four generation pedigree is inside. At the far right bottom corner, is a place for the hip rating. (This space will be blank if the dog is under 12 months of age.) If the hips have been x-rayed (and certified) that will be noted. It will say "a" zuerkannt.
